Sarah and Devin Ginther, the proud owners of TXUS, could not contain their excitement when they received this beautiful cedar elm log to mill for one of their clients. As they custom milled this log, they were struck by its immense beauty and the unique character it displayed. Cedar elm is one of the most widely grown species in Texas and is known for its strength, hardness, and resistance to decay.

Haven and Sarah, our lead sawyers, are enjoying another beautiful day of milling. For this homeowner, we were asked to produce a mantle which will be installed in their newly constructed home. The log was rescued off their property but will not be forgotten as a perfect example of an urban wood product.

At our sawmill, we take pride in our unique ability to tackle even the most challenging logs found anywhere in North America. Unlike most sawmills, we specialize in milling live oak - one of the hardest domestic hardwoods found in the US. To ensure the best results, we use special carbide blades to mill these tough logs. Our commitment to quality and expertise allows us to produce top-quality lumber from live oak, something that many other sawmills cannot offer.

Bois d'Arc, also commonly called “bodark” or “osage orange”, is a very unique wood in Texas. Osage Orange wood, also known as hedge apple, is special for many reasons. It is known for its bright golden yellow color, which deepens to a beautiful orange over time. Osage orange is widely considered one of the most durable and shock-resistant domestic hardwoods available. Its unique properties make it an excellent choice for a wide range of applications, including furniture making, fence posts, archery bows, and tool handles.

Texas Mesquite Wood is known for its striking beauty, displaying a rich blend of colors that range from sandy browns to deep reds. One of the unique features of Texas Mesquite is its ability to create unique "figure" patterns, such as curl, quilt, and tiger stripes, which adds to its aesthetic appeal. Apart from its beauty, Mesquite is a popular choice for furniture making, flooring, and decorative woodwork due to its durability and hardness. Additionally, Texas Mesquite is highly resistant to warping and splitting, making it a one of the most stable woods in the world. Furthermore, Mesquite wood is a sustainable choice, as it is native to Texas and widely available, making it an eco-friendly and responsible choice for those who value the environment.

Brent and Devin enjoying a peek inside of the soul of the tree. This Shamard Red Oak was lost in the Winter Ice Storm of 2021. We helped remove and transport this log back to our facility in Dripping Springs, TX. Rescuing the tree, and using the lumber from it, helps reduce the ecological impact of tree removal and contributes to environmental conservation. We love helping to preserve a tree's beauty, sustainability, and ecological value, while also providing valuable lumber for woodworking projects.
